Four Square
One playground ball, chalk or tape to mark a four-square grid
How to play
Mark a large square divided into four equal smaller squares numbered one to four. One player stands in each square with the player in square four being the king or server. The server bounces the ball once and hits it underhand into any other square. The receiving player must let it bounce once and then hit it into another square. Players are eliminated if they fail to return the ball, hit it out of bounds, catch or carry the ball, or allow it to bounce twice in their square. Eliminated players go to the end of the waiting line and the remaining players move up toward square four.
Variations
Introduce special rules for the king square such as tricky shots or special powers. Allow players waiting in line to call out rule changes between serves.
