General PE Games

Throw it and Tag

How to play

All players spread out in a defined playing area. One player starts with a soft ball and is the tagger. The tagger must throw the ball and hit another player below the waist to tag them. Once the tagger releases the ball, they cannot move from their spot until the ball is returned to them or another player picks it up. If a player is hit below the waist, they join the tagging team and can pick up the ball to throw at remaining free players. Free players may run anywhere within the boundaries to avoid being hit. If the ball is caught on the full by a free player, the thrower must sit out for one round. The game continues until all free players have been tagged. Throwers must remain stationary once they have the ball—passing between taggers is encouraged to create better throwing angles.

Variations

Use multiple balls to speed up the game. Allow taggers to take 3 steps before throwing. Create 'safe zones' where players can rest for 5 seconds. Play with teams where tagged players switch teams rather than being eliminated.
