Ship to Shore
None (requires a large open area with four designated walls or lines)
How to play
Assign each of the four walls or boundary lines a ship-related name: Port is left, Starboard is right, Bow is front, and Stern is back. Players begin in the middle of the space. The caller shouts a direction and players must sprint to the correct side of the room. The last player to reach the line each round receives a point against them or is eliminated. Add action commands such as 'Scrub the deck' where players kneel and mime scrubbing, 'Shark!' where everyone freezes, or 'Lifeboat' where players find a partner and link arms. Keep the pace fast and the commands unpredictable.
Variations
Introduce new commands over multiple sessions as the class learns the existing ones. Use this game to teach compass directions or map vocabulary.
